Conquer the Volcano

Mount Longonot is a dormant stratovolcano located in the Great Rift Valley, about 90 km from Nairobi. Its name derives from the Maasai word "Oloonong'ot" meaning "mountains of many spurs". The hike to the crater rim is steep but rewarding, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Naivasha, Mt. Suswa, and the surrounding escarpment.

The standard route ascends 3.1 km to the rim, where you can choose to hike the 7.2 km circumference around the crater (approx. 2 hours). The crater floor is a unique landscape of volcanic ash, geothermal steam vents, and small forest patches. This day trip is perfect for active travelers and nature lovers. After the hike, you'll enjoy lunch at Fisherman's Camp and have the option to take a relaxing boat ride on Lake Naivasha.
